Classes 3, 8 & 9 Only — DOT + PHMSA Verified

Hazmat Freight Transport

DLS brokers hazardous material shipments under Classes 3, 8, and 9 — Flammable Liquids, Corrosives, and Miscellaneous Dangerous Goods. Every carrier is verified for $5M hazmat liability coverage, PHMSA registration status where federally required, and a valid HME-endorsed driver before your load dispatches.

Request a Hazmat Quote Verify a Carrier

Moving regulated hazardous materials requires more than a truck with DOT authority. DLS verifies every carrier against a four-point compliance checklist before any Class 3, 8, or 9 shipment is tendered — active FMCSA authority, $5M minimum hazmat liability insurance, PHMSA registration where federally applicable, and a driver with a valid HME endorsement. Shippers who skip this process risk cargo incidents, insurance claim denials, and direct regulatory liability.

What We Move — Approved Hazmat Classes

DLS is insured and authorized to broker the following hazmat classes. Shipments falling outside these classes cannot be accepted.

Class 3
Flammable Liquids

Liquids with a flash point at or below 60°C that present a fire hazard during transport.

Common examples:
  • Ethanol & fuel additives
  • Paint & paint thinners
  • Acetone & solvents
  • Adhesives
  • Petroleum products
Class 8
Corrosive Materials

Substances that can cause severe damage to living tissue, equipment, containers, or the environment through chemical action.

Common examples:
  • Sulfuric & hydrochloric acid
  • Battery acid
  • Sodium hydroxide
  • Industrial cleaning chemicals
  • Caustic liquids
Class 9
Miscellaneous Dangerous Goods

Materials presenting transportation hazards that do not fit within other hazard class definitions but still require regulatory handling.

Common examples:
  • Lithium batteries
  • Dry ice
  • Asbestos
  • Environmentally hazardous substances
  • Certain electronics

Classes We Do Not Broker

Our insurance standards restrict brokerage to Classes 3, 8, and 9. The following classes cannot be accepted under any circumstances:

Class 1 — Explosives Fireworks, ammunition, blasting agents, detonators, dynamite
Class 6 — Toxic & Infectious Substances Medical waste, biohazard material, infectious substances, toxic chemicals, clinical waste
Class 7 — Radioactive Materials Nuclear materials, radioactive isotopes, medical radioactive products

If your shipment falls into one of these classes, we will let you know immediately and will not quote or tender the load. There are no exceptions.

Our Carrier Qualification Standards

Before any hazmat load is assigned, every carrier must pass a four-point qualification review. These are not optional — all four are mandatory.

  • Active FMCSA Operating Authority — Active MC Number, active USDOT Number, and operating authority in good standing. Verified against live FMCSA SAFER data before every dispatch.
  • $5M Hazmat Liability Insurance — Minimum $5,000,000 hazmat liability coverage. Certificate of Insurance obtained directly, policy dates verified, and hazmat coverage confirmed listed. Carriers with coverage below $5M are automatically disqualified.
  • Current PHMSA Registration — Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) Certificate of Registration verified for all carriers where federal registration thresholds apply. Registration number, expiration date, and carrier identity confirmed prior to assignment.
  • HME-Endorsed Driver — Driver must hold a valid CDL with a Hazmat Endorsement (HME) and a current USDOT medical certificate. Unendorsed drivers are not dispatched on hazmat loads.
  • Management Approval on Every Load — All hazmat shipments receive management review and documented approval before dispatch. Approval recorded in the shipment file and customer record.
